What affects motorcycle insurance price?

The state requires drivers to purchase and maintain at least the state minimum motorcycle cycle liability coverage of 25/65/15. But I definitely recommend carrying more coverage than that considering motorcycle is one of the cheaper insurances out there. So to increase liability is going to be definitely worth it.

Also another reason to purchase motorcycle insurance is to insure against things like theft, damage and passenger liability. If your bike is stolen do you want to replace it with your own money? Or if it is damaged and needs an expensive repair due to an accident do you want to pay out of pocket for it? What happens if your passenger is injured in an accident and needs to pay for extensive medical bills and lost wages? These are things you definitely need to consider talking to your agent about when considering to purchase motorcycle insurance.

Final reason why to consider paying for full coverage motorcycle insurance is if you have a loan on it. Most banks and credit unions required full coverage as a requirement of getting a loan for your bike. If you don't have full coverage and your bike gets destroyed or severely damaged but you have a loan on it you will have to keep paying on the loan until it is paid off or sold. With a damaged or destroyed bike that is not a good situation to be in. I will say that most likely before it even gets to that point the banks will put their own insurance on your motorcycle that will be drastically more expensive and less coverage than if you just got insurance on it yourself.

How do I get cheap motorcycle insurance?

Some things that can effect your motorcycle insurance is age of operator, loss history, violations, storage location, time in storage, usage and riding experience. A lot of different insurance companies offer multi-policy discounts for insuring multiple motorcycles, cars and a home.

Insurance companies also consider anyone over 25 to be more responsible thus have a better rate. To save money on motorcycle insurance I recommend to pass a motorcycle safety training course. Typically those who pass safety courses get discounts and save money even they have had prior violations and losses.

A lot of insurance companies base their rates of storage locations and how long you keep your bike in storage. A rider who stores up their bike in a locked facility is more likely to get a better rate than if they just leave it outside under a tarp. Also if you live in a sunny state and ride your motorcycle year round you will most likely be paying more for your motorcycle insurance as your usage is great than someone living in snowy state where they have their bike in storage for months and have a shorter riding window.

Average motorcycle insurance cost.

There is a lot of factors in calculating cost of motorcycle insurance. Such as type of bike, is it a cruise, sport bike, moped or a trike? These factors are definitely consider by insurance companies when it comes to determining rates. Does your bike have any additional equipment or aftermarket parts that is needing to be insured? Additional coverage means additional cost.

Another factor is how much liability do you need to cover things such as bodily injury or property damage you might cause in the event of an accident. This liability is one of the most important parts of your motorcycle insurance purchasing decision as it protects you from law suits.

Lastly, what kind of discounts did you apply for? Did you take a safety course? Are you experienced? Are you over 25? Are you insuring multiple things other than a motorcycle with your carrier? The more discounts and experience you have the cheaper your rate will be. Feel free to ask us what can of discounts fit your situation by clicking right here.
